We are thrilled to announce the first ever Newcastle Cycling Film Festival - #NCFF17. Ahead of Paris-Roubaix (possibly the world's most prestigious cycle race), our film programme focusses heavily on road biking, but still offers something for everyone. From grittty behind-the-scenes documentaries to large-production dramas. We're even showing a hilarious animation, accompanied by live music from Alan Jones!

Offering a feast of cycling entertainment, food from The French Pop Up and beer from Tynebank Brewery, it's the perfect build-up to the epic race and a great way to celebrate the sport. Pop in for a single film, pick and choose as you like, or come for all!

The Impossible Hour

The Impossible Hour follows Danish cycling star Ole Ritter's attempt to set a new record for the "Hour Ride" in 1974. He had set the record previously in 1968, only to have it shattered by Eddy Merckx in 1972. The Hour Record is considered by many to be "the noblest, most difficult record that can be set on a bicycle".

The Flying Scotsman

The Flying Scotsman is based on the incredible true story of amateur cyclist Graeme Obree, who breaks the Hour Record on a bike he made out of washing machine parts. It highlights his exasperating and at times amusing battle with the cycling establishment, with incredible performances by both Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Boyd.

A hilarious animated classic following the story of a kidnapped Tour de France cyclist named Champion. You've never seen anything like this film! The Triplets of Belleville (aka Belleville Rendevous) is wildly inventive and highly original, full of colourful characters and incredible imagery.

The Triplets of Belleville will be screened in the background (with subtitles) while we enjoy the musical brilliance of Alan Jones; a Newcastle based guitarist, singer and song writer, well known for his fingerstyle guitar playing, his infectious foot-stomping and his finger-clicking percussive grooves!

Alan has performed locally to the North East for over 20 years and has enjoyed playing in bands such as Ashram, Caravan, Smoove and Turrell, Carnival of Crows and most recently The Backyard Rhythm Orchestra.
